Quicken Online Now Available

In a previous post, I  mentioned Mint.com, which is a website that helps you manage your day-to-day finances.  I also outlined a series of competitors, including Mvelopes.com, Quicken, and Microsoft Money.

Now, Intuit has launched Quicken Online, which has a 30 day free trial and is then $2.99 per month after the trial period.  Intuit is the maker of the Quicken, Quickbooks and TurboTax software packages that are extremely popular.

According to their site, the online version of the software is loaded with features (including the ability to check your balances using your iPhone) and appears to have a large selection of financial institutions that one can link into.

The benefit of having this data online is that you are not bound to your computer to check on your financial information.  The downside is that having this data online could potentially lead to hackers gaining access to your sensitive data.  To guard against this possibility, the site promises a large amount of security, using 128-bit encryption.

I like the concept of Quicken Online and will likely give it a try.   Since Intuit has had an online version of Quickbooks for several years, I suspect that they have worked out many of the kinks.
