A New Definition of Prosperity

We were watching the DVD's from the Catalyst Conference over the weekend.  Even though we have never been to the conference, we typically purchase the audio and video recordings and learn from the all-star collection of presenters that attend each year.

In the presentation by Dave Ramsey, he shared a profound quote that he attributed to Bill Gass.  "Prosperity is having the money to do God's will in your life".

How many people do we know in our churches that have big dreams that are being held back by the curse of debt?  This financial bondage can prevent us from fully using our talents to serve God and bless others.  Instead, "I owe, I owe, so off to work I go" is the mantra of far too many Americans.

The world around us defines prosperity by the size of our income, by how much stuff we have, or by the number of zeros before the decimal place in our bank account statements.   Our society raises up millionaires and billionaires as if they are some kind of heroes.

However, in my mind, the definition from Gass is much closer to the true meaning of prosperity.  True wealth does not come from being able to buy things but from having the freedom to do what we want to do.  When we are debt-free and not working for the banks and credit card companies, then we have the freedom to pursue those activities for which we were uniquely gifted by God.  In God's will, we will find His favor.  That is the kind of riches that I want to pursue.
