I found an article on Yahoo! today that outlines a growing body of economic evidence that people who are more generous tend to be more wealthy.  The article can be found here.

Of course to the reader of the Bible, we know that this concept was explained in God's word thousands of years ago. 

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) reads "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."

In addition, we can find in Proverbs 22:9 (NIV) "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor."

Another example is found in Malachi 3:10-11 (NIV) "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty."

Finally, a warning against withholding your giving can be found in Proverbs 28:22 (NIV), "A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him."
