Do you have more "stuff" than you need?  Are you trying to buy a gift for that someone who has everything? 

If so, one alternative gift that you can give is a donation to World Vision by shopping from their "gift catalog".  According to their website, the basic idea of the catalog is to "honor someone special in your life by giving a life changing gift in their name to a child or family in need."

You can a choose a gift in one of several categories including : food, education, health care, hope for girls and women, shelter and warmth, HIV prevention and AIDS care, or sponsor a child.  You can even choose to help someone in the U.S. or abroad.

Example gifts include : a fishing kit, a goat, an alpaca, share of a deep well, educational support, etc.  There are more than 100 possible gifts, at varying levels of support.

Our family asked for this instead of receiving gifts last year from some relatives, and we can say that we truly didn't miss receiving whatever gift would have come our way.  The biggest blessing was knowing that someone was receiving something that they really needed...I know that I certainly didn't need anything.
