What is the Relationship between IQ and Wealth ?

One of my favorite Dave Ramsey quotes is that "winning at money is 80 percent behavior and 20 percent head knowledge".  Newly released research confirms just how true this statement may be.

A new study from Jay Zagorsky at Ohio State has found that there is almost no relationship between wealth and IQ.  In fact, he found that people with higher IQ's may be more prone to financial difficulties than people with lower IQ's.  For instance, more than 12 percent of those with an IQ of 90 have maxed out their credit cards compared with less than 8 percent of those with an IQ of 75 and below.  This is in spite of the fact that the study found that higher IQ's normally lead to higher incomes.

According to Zagorsky, "The message is simple.  Intelligence is not a factor for explaining wealth. Those with low intelligence should not believe they are handicapped, and those with high intelligence should not believe they have an advantage".

I was just thinking about how much I agree with this Ramsey quote. It really isn't that difficult, it just requires some self discipline. Many people who are disciplined, but know nothing about money do pretty well for themselves.
